U.S. federal law requires men residing in the United States, ages 18 through 25, to register with the Selective Service System. Georgia state law requires Selective Service registration for males to be eligible to receive state financial aid programs, including the HOPE and Zell Miller Scholarships and Grants. Eligible colleges and universities cannot award any state financial aid if students do not meet the federal Selective Service registration requirement.

I am not yet 18 years old, what do I need to do for Selective Service?
Within 30 days of your 18th birthday, register for Selective Service. If not, it will affect your state financial aid.
Can I receive the HOPE/Zell Miller Scholarship if I am not registered for Selective Service?
Male students ages 18 through 25 must have Selective Service registration on file with GSFC for your college or university to process your state financial aid.
Where can I learn more about Selective Service?
Visit the Selective Service System for more information regarding registration.
Will I be contacted by military recruiters after I register with Selective Service?
No, there has not been a draft since 1973. Registering with Selective Service ensures a rapid expansion (in the form of a draft or lottery) of our Armed Forces during a national emergency.
I am an international student, do I need to register?
International students with valid (unexpired) F or M visas are not required to register due to their non-immigrant status. Students must submit the Selective Service Waiver Form and a copy of their valid visa to GSFC. Note: Students must meet all eligibility requirements.
