The Gaston County Register Of Deeds office holds birth and death records for Gaston County citizens born or who died in Gaston County from 1913 to the present. Anyone born in Gaston County during that time can request a copy of their birth certificate from this office, with the exception of adoptions.
Note: Only a mother, father, brother, sister, grandparent, or spouse can request another person’s birth or death certificate with valid photo identification.
The fee for each certified copy of a Gaston County birth or death certificate is $10 when issued in the office.
There are three ways to request Gaston County birth and death certificates:
- Online: Through the Vital Records Portal (a $3.50 service fee from a third-party vendor will apply).
- In Person: At the Gaston County Register of Deeds office – Gaston County Courthouse | 325 Dr. M.L.K., Jr. Way | Gastonia, NC 28052 (cash or card accepted).
- By Mail: Complete the Application for Certified Copy of Vital Record (PDF) and mail it to: Gaston County Register of Deeds | P.O. Box 1578 | Gastonia, NC 28053.
The Gaston County Register of Deeds office now offers statewide birth certificate applications from 1971 to present. Anyone born in North Carolina during that timeframe (excluding adoptions) may request a copy of their birth certificate at the office (walk-in service only). The cost for this service is $24, payable by cash or card (this fee is set by the state).
