Can I Register to Vote at the Polling Place?

First-time voter registration in Texas requires you to complete an application and submit it to your county election office at least 30 days before Election Day. You can complete the application in a number of ways.

Registering to vote when renewing your driver’s license is one convenient option. If you’re not registered to vote but have a Texas driver’s license or identification card, you can register online when you renew, replace, or change your address information for these cards through the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).

You can follow the steps on the DPS web portal to update your driver’s license information and you will be provided with the option to register to vote as you renew or update your information.

Updating your voter registration information online is also easy. Whether you recently moved or changed your name, you can update all information on your voter registration record through the portal on Texas.gov.

If your voter registration record is in “suspense” status, that means your county of registration has received information that you may no longer reside at the address on your current voter registration record. You can use the link provided to update the address or information on your voter registration record. To update your voter registration, you will need your unique Voter Unique Identifier (VUID) number to log in to the Texas.gov portal. You can find your VUID by visiting the Texas SOS Voter Portal where you can enter your Name, County, Date of Birth and ZIP Code to display your voter registration information.
