Male students in the US, aged 18 to 25, are required by federal law to register with the Selective Service System. Georgia state law requires Selective Service registration for male students to be eligible for state financial aid, including the HOPE and Zell Miller Scholarships and Grants. Eligible colleges and universities will not be able to disburse any state aid if a student doesn’t meet the federal Selective Service registration requirement.
If you haven’t registered with the Selective Service System, register today! You can check your Selective Service registration status on the Selective Service System website.
If you are not yet 18, you need to register with the Selective Service System within 30 days of your 18th birthday. Failure to register will affect your state financial aid.
Male students aged 18-25 must have Selective Service registration in the GSFC database for your college or university to process your state financial aid. You can learn more about the Selective Service System on their official website.
Registering with the Selective Service System does not mean you will be contacted by military recruiters. The US has not had a military draft since 1973. Registration ensures the ability to rapidly expand the armed forces in a national emergency.
International students with a valid (not expired) F or M visa are not required to register due to their non-immigrant status. Students must submit a Selective Service Non-Registration Form and a copy of their valid visa to GSFC. Note: Students must meet all eligibility requirements.
