Fix a Lexus GS350 2007 Trunk Release Problem

The trunk of a 2007 Lexus GS350 suddenly stopped working is a common issue. Both the trunk release button next to the driver’s seat and the button on the key fob are unresponsive. Even when using the key fob, the car only beeps, and the trunk remains closed. The only solution is to use the valet key hidden in the fob to open the trunk.

Several people have experienced this problem and shared their repair experiences. Some took their cars to a Lexus dealership and spent $1600 to fix it. However, others successfully repaired it themselves by disconnecting the ECU (Electronic Control Unit) cable. Disconnecting and reconnecting the cable resets the ECU and restores normal trunk operation.

The location of the cable and ECU is usually at the rear of the trunk, near the hinge area. However, finding and working with these parts can be complex and require some technical knowledge.

Another suggested solution is to disconnect the negative terminal of the main battery, wait 5 minutes, and then reconnect it. This also resets the ECU and may fix the trunk release problem. The main battery is used to start the car and is usually located in the engine compartment. Disconnecting the negative terminal should be done carefully to avoid damaging the car’s electrical system. Before doing this, make sure the engine is off and the key is removed from the ignition.

Some users have successfully repaired the issue by resetting the ECU through battery disconnection. However, if you lack experience in car repair, it’s best to take your car to a Lexus dealership or a reputable mechanic for safe and effective troubleshooting and repair. Tampering with the car’s electrical system could cause more serious damage.
