U.S. federal law requires men residing in the United States between the ages of 18 and 25 to register with the Selective Service System. Georgia state law also requires Selective Service registration for males to be eligible for state financial aid programs, including the HOPE and Zell Miller Scholarship and Grant. Eligible colleges and universities cannot award any state financial aid if a student does not meet the federal Selective Service registration requirement.
If you have not registered with the Selective Service System – Register today! You can check your Selective Service registration status at Selective Service Verify Registration.
If you are not yet 18, you are required to register with Selective Service within 30 days of your 18th birthday. Failure to register will affect state financial aid.
Male students between the ages of 18 and 25 must have a Selective Service registration on file with GSFC for your college or university to process state financial aid. The HOPE/Zell Miller Scholarship will not be awarded if you are not registered.
For more information regarding registration, you can visit the Selective Service System.
Registering with Selective Service does not mean that you will be contacted by military recruiters. There has not been a draft call since 1973. Registering with Selective Service ensures a rapid expansion (in the form of a draft or lottery) of our Armed Forces during a national emergency.
International students with a valid (unexpired) F or M Visa are not required to register due to their non-immigrant status. Students must submit the Selective Service Waiver Form and a copy of their valid Visa to GSFC. Note: Students must meet all eligibility requirements.
