Registering to vote online in California is a simple and convenient process. You will need some personal information to complete the registration.
You will need to provide your driver’s license or California identification card number, the last four digits of your social security number, and your date of birth. This information will be provided to the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to retrieve your DMV signature on file.
If you do not have a driver’s license or California identification card, you can still use this form to register to vote. However, you will need to take additional steps to complete your voter registration.
If you are registering or re-registering less than 15 days before an election, you will need to complete the Same Day Voter Registration process and request your ballot in person at your county elections office or polling place. For more information on voter registration and polling locations, contact your local county elections official.
For those participating in the Safe at Home program, please do not use this online form. Contact the Safe at Home program at (877) 322-5227 or visit their website for more information on how to register to vote safely and securely. Sharing your address could put you in life-threatening danger; you may be eligible to register to vote confidentially.
If you are 16 or 17 years old, you can use this online registration application to pre-register to vote. Check if you’re already registered to vote and, if so, in which county.
For more information about registering to vote, you may want to visit the Secretary of State’s Frequently Asked Questions. If you have questions or would like to report fraud, call the Secretary of State’s Voter Hotline at (800) 345-VOTE (8683) or your county elections office.
