Registering to vote for the first time is crucial for exercising your civic rights and participating in the democratic process. In Vietnam, voter registration is clearly regulated and relatively straightforward.
To register to vote, you must meet the following requirements: be a Vietnamese citizen at least 18 years old, have full civil act capacity, and not fall under any categories of disenfranchisement as prescribed by law.
The voter registration process typically takes place before each election. You need to visit the People’s Committee of the commune where you reside to register. Bring your Identity Card or Citizen Identity Card for verification purposes.
At the Commune People’s Committee, you will be guided to fill out a voter registration form. This form requires basic personal information such as full name, date of birth, permanent address, and Identity Card/Citizen Identity Card number.
After completing the registration form, a Commune People’s Committee official will review your information and confirm your registration. You will be issued a voter registration certificate. Keep this certificate carefully for use when voting.
If you have previously registered to vote but have changed your residence, you need to transfer your voter registration to your new place of residence. This procedure is also carried out at the People’s Committee of the commune where you currently reside.
