Signing up your business on Google Business Profile (formerly Google My Business) is a great first step to attract potential customers. When searching on Google, customers will see helpful information about your business, including your location on Google Maps, hours of operation, phone number, and latest offers. Signing up only takes a few minutes and offers many benefits. Here’s a detailed guide.
Sign in to Google. If you have a Gmail account, you already have a Google account. If not, you can sign up for free.
Visit the Google Business Profile page at www.google.com/business and click the “Manage now” button. You’ll be directed to the signup form where you’ll need to enter basic information about your business.
Complete all required information, including: Business Name, Business Type, Business Category (e.g., Gifts & Flowers, Pets, Car Sales), Business Address, Service Area (if applicable), Contact Information, Website Address (if applicable).
Verify your business. Google offers several verification options to prevent spam and ensure the authenticity of your business. Verification methods include: Postcard, Phone or Text Message, Email, Video Recording, Live Video Call, Instant Verification. Choose the method that’s most convenient for you. For example, with the Postcard method, Google will mail a postcard with a unique verification code to your business address.
After signing up, regularly update your information and photos on Google Business Profile to increase customer engagement. Updating your contact information, hours of operation, and product/service images will help attract the attention of potential customers.
Google has changed the service name from “Google My Business” to “Google Business Profile” and simplified the process of managing business information directly on the Google Maps app. The separate Google My Business app has been discontinued.
