Lexington County Register of Deeds: Essential Information

The Lexington County Register Of Deeds office operates Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Document recording is conducted from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. All recording activities cease at 4:30 PM.

Michael E. Horne, the Lexington County Register of Deeds, is committed to providing professional and efficient service to the public. The office is responsible for recording, preserving, and maintaining access to real estate records, vital records, military discharge records, and administering oaths of office as prescribed by law.

The office provides high-quality customer service, a public computer lab for legal research, self-service computers, and same-day document recording for walk-in customers.

The office encourages the public to utilize the website and online services to save time and effort. A 3% convenience fee, or a minimum of $1, applies to credit card payments.

You can mail military discharges or assumed name registrations to: PO Box 464 Lexington, N.C. 27293. The assumed name registration fee is $26 and a self-addressed stamped envelope should be included.

For marriage licenses, you can apply online through the office’s website. Once the application is complete, the system will prompt you to call and schedule an appointment. Marriage licenses are valid for 60 days.

All real estate searches should be conducted online. Judgment searches can be made through the Clerk of Court’s office. Attorneys are encouraged to use the Electronic Recording System or submit by mail. Records are indexed from 1984 to the present. If you need assistance with records prior to 1984, please contact the office.

For Funeral Homes with Escrow Accounts, please fax requests to: 336-238-2318. Orders will be completed and mailed within 48 hours. Those without Escrow Accounts will need to bring the request, along with payment and proof of Funeral Home employment, to receive certified copies. You can also mail requests with a self-addressed stamped envelope.

Note: Color-coded plats will not upload correctly and will not be recorded.
