The News Register Newspaper reported on a wrongful death lawsuit filed after the 2023 Newberg plane crash. The lawsuit, filed Jan. 13 in Multnomah County, involves a 20-year-old who died in the 2023 Newberg plane crash. Barrett Bevacqua of Hillsboro died in the October 2023 plane crash.
Another News Register article reported that the Yamhill County Board of Commissioners is considering a crackdown on wastewater. The board will vote Thursday on changing the septic tank code to address properties illegally discharging wastewater. The Yamhill County Health Department is requesting the code change.
The News Register also reported on the closure of Bernards’ popular farm market in March. Bernards Farm, which recently celebrated 100 years of its eye-catching big white barn, will close March 9, according to owners Marvin and Georgia Bernards. They took over the business from Marvin’s parents in 1981.
Dayton lifted its water restrictions after a large leak was discovered, according to the News Register. The city of Dayton ended its three-week water restriction Tuesday, as reservoirs returned to normal levels. Public works identified a leaking service line estimated at 100 to 200 gallons per minute.
The News Register also reported that a Cornelius man was indicted on domestic violence charges against a Carlton woman. Christopher Michael Herr, 44, of Cornelius, was indicted Jan. 30 on multiple charges stemming from a Jan. 26 incident. Herr was indicted on charges of first-degree burglary, fourth-degree assault.
As immigration arrests loom, sheriff emphasizes local authorities not involved in federal efforts, according to the News Register. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has been seen across the country arresting and detaining undocumented immigrants, many with criminal records in the U.S., following an executive order from President Donald Trump.
McMinnville Fire District added a new facility by the end of 2024 at 3850 S.E. Three Mile Lane in southeast McMinnville, and the move is underway, according to the News Register.
Mac construction company Fackler Construction is being sued by Polk County Fire District, according to the News Register. Polk County Rural Fire Protection District is seeking $2.6 million in damages from McMinnville-based general contractor Fackler Construction over issues related to the construction of three fire stations.
Longtime Dayton agriculture teacher Mitch Coleman retires, according to the News Register. Mitch Coleman, who has been with the agriculture and FFA programs at Dayton High School and middle school for 35 years, was honored Jan. 30 upon his retirement.
