The standard registration fee for cars and small pickup trucks is $50.75.
Motor vehicles weighing between 6,001 and 10,000 pounds, including heavier pickup trucks, are subject to a base registration fee of $54.
For heavier vehicles, including heavy-duty pickup trucks, motor homes, and commercial trucks, registration fees are divided into seven weight classes ranging from 6,001 pounds to 80,000 pounds.
The registration fee for travel trailers and trailers up to 6,000 pounds is $45.
The standard fee for motorcycles and motor scooters is $30.
All-electric cars and trucks with a gross vehicle weight of 10,000 lbs or less will be assessed an annual fee of $200 at the time of registration renewal beginning September 1, 2023. In addition, new electric vehicles issued a two-year registration to coincide with the two-year inspection will be assessed a fee of $400. All standard vehicle registration fees and related fees still apply.

Texas registration fees include the base registration fee for your vehicle type and $1 for the maintenance and operation of the Insurance Verification Project (TexasSure). 100% of your base registration fee goes directly into the State Highway Fund for the construction and maintenance of the state’s transportation system. Local fees vary among counties and are set by the County Commissioners Court. Amounts listed in Local Fees may range from $0 to $31.50 depending on your county of registration.
All counties may assess a fee of up to $10 to be deposited into the county road and bridge fund. Certain counties are authorized to assess an additional fee for transportation not to exceed $20 to fund long-term transportation projects within the county. All counties may also assess a Child Safety Fee of up to $1.50 to promote child safety programs including health and nutrition education and school crossing guard protection. For more information, please see our current Registration Fee Chart. Specialty License Plate Fees will only be assessed if the vehicle being renewed has specialty license plates.
Inspection Replacement Fees are mandated by state law to be collected at the time of vehicle registration. At the time of inspection, motorists pay only the inspection station portion of the fee. The state’s portion of the inspection fee is collected at the time of registration or renewal.
The Electric Vehicle (EV) Fee will not apply to hybrid or combination fuel type vehicles or to motorcycles, motor scooters, autocycles, and neighborhood electric vehicles. Additionally, government vehicles exempt from registration and other vehicles not required to pay registration fees, including those with Disabled Veteran and other distinguished military license plates, will not be assessed the fee. Processing and Handling Fees cover the costs of processing vehicle registrations. These costs include state and county services; generating annual renewal notices; registration stickers; and other related services and materials.
