Texas registration fees include a base registration fee for your vehicle type and $1 for the maintenance and operation of the Insurance Verification Project (TexasSure). 100% of your base registration fees go directly into the State Highway Fund for the construction and maintenance of the state’s transportation system.

Local Fees include one or more fees assessed by your county of registration. Local fees vary by county and are set by the County Commissioners Court. The amount listed in Local Fees can range from $0 to $31.50 depending on your county of registration. All counties may assess a fee of up to $10 to be deposited into the county road and bridge fund. Certain counties are authorized to assess an additional fee for transportation not to exceed $20 to fund long-term transportation projects within the county. All counties may also assess a child safety fee of up to $1.50 to promote child safety programs including health and nutrition education and school crossing guard protection.

Specialty License Plate Fees will only be assessed if the vehicle being renewed has specialty license plates. Inspection Replacement Fees are required by state law to be collected at the time of vehicle registration.

The Electric Vehicle (EV) Fee will not apply to hybrid or combination fuel type vehicles or to motorcycles, mopeds, autocycles and neighborhood electric vehicles. Also, government vehicles exempt from registration and other vehicles not required to pay registration fees, including those with Disabled Veteran license plates and other distinguished military license plates, will not be assessed the fee. Processing and Handling Fees cover the cost of processing vehicle registrations. These costs include state and county services; generating annual renewal notices; registration stickers; and other related services and materials.
