Registering to vote is the first step to participating in Maryland’s 2024 presidential election. The registration process is simple and there are several ways to register.
You can register to vote during early voting. Visit an early voting center in your county of residence and bring proof of residency. This can be a driver’s license, permit, ID card or change of address card issued by the MVA, or a paycheck, bank statement, utility bill, or other government document that has your new name and address.
You can also register to vote on Election Day. Go to your assigned polling place for your place of residence and bring proof of residency. You can find your polling place here. This can be a driver’s license, permit, ID card or change of address card issued by the MVA, or a paycheck, bank statement, utility bill, or other government document that has your new name and address.
You can update your address during early voting or on Election Day. Go to the assigned polling place for your new address. You can find your polling place here. At the polling place, you’ll provide your new address, cast a provisional ballot and election officials will update your address and count your provisional ballot.
You can also register to vote online through the Maryland Online Voter Registration System. The deadline to register to vote online is October 24, 2024.
The deadline for us to receive your mail-in ballot request using the online system is November 1st for the Presidential General Election. If you have missed this deadline and want to vote by mail, please visit your local board of elections. You can pick up your ballot there and vote and return it or take the ballot with you and return it by mail or at a ballot drop box (Spanish).
After you submit your application, you can check the status of your voter registration application here.
If you choose to receive a mail-in ballot through the U.S. Postal Service, simply follow the instructions included with your ballot and return it in the postage paid return envelope provided.
Your mail-in ballot must be mailed, dropped in a ballot drop box, taken to a polling place, Early Voting Center or your local board by 8:00 p.m. on Election Day, November 5th for the Presidential General Election. If you mail your ballot, it must be postmarked on or before each Election Day to be counted.
