Changing 3D Printer Ownership: A Step-by-Step Guide

Changing 3D printer ownership is crucial when the original owner’s account is deleted, a user leaves, or you acquire a used printer. Updating ownership on both the printer and the Polar Cloud platform ensures continued operation.

This process involves two main steps: changing ownership on Polar Cloud and updating user information on the printer. First, the new owner must be invited to the printer with “Manage” permissions. After accepting the invitation, the previous owner can transfer ownership via the “Change Owner” option. The new owner must accept this request to complete the transfer.

Next, the user information on the printer needs to be updated to match the new owner. You can access Polar Cloud settings via the printer’s LCD screen or web interface. In some cases, you might need to temporarily disable the cloud connection to change the owner’s username and PIN.

Importantly, changing user information on the printer before changing it on Polar Cloud will lead to connection errors. This occurs because the printer will search for the new user information but still find the old owner’s data.

Another potential issue is network blockage of the 3D printer’s connection. 3D printers utilize a websocket connection over port 443 (encrypted HTTPS traffic) to Amazon Web Services. The specific location or region you connect to depends on your geographic location. Ensure your network isn’t blocking bidirectional traffic or websockets for the printer. You may need to work with your network administrator to “whitelist” the printer’s Ethernet or WiFi MAC address in the router settings.

For Dremel printers, the Polar Cloud option won’t appear in the settings unless “United States” and “English” are selected in the language settings. Ensure these fields are correct and restart the printer after making changes.

Finally, the “helloResponse FAILED” error typically arises when the owner’s credentials (Username and PIN) stored in the printer’s memory don’t match the information on Polar Cloud. To resolve this, access your Polar Cloud account, navigate to printer management, and check the “Members” tab to identify the “Owner”. Ensure this user’s information matches the information within the printer’s “Polar Cloud Connection” settings page.
