Renew Your Vehicle Registration Online or In-Person

Vehicle registrations must be renewed on or before the scheduled expiration date to avoid a $15 late fee. If your legal address changes during the transaction, you must provide two proofs of residency.

You can conveniently renew your vehicle registration online at myBMV.com. Heavy vehicles over 26,000 lbs and any other vehicle type requiring supplemental forms upon renewal will not be eligible to renew online.

Residents of Lake and Porter counties, please refer to the Vehicle Emissions Testing Program page.

You can obtain renewal details, including the amount due, through myBMV.com without creating a myBMV account. If you need assistance, please contact our Customer Contact Center.

Another way to renew your vehicle registration is through a BMV Connect Kiosk. You can find a Kiosk location near you.

You can also renew your registration by phone. Call the Contact Center at 888-692-6841. You will need to provide the phone access code listed on your myBMV account or your renewal notice and the zip code for each vehicle listed. Heavy vehicles over 26,000 lbs, all specialty group identification plates, and any other vehicle type requiring supplemental forms upon renewal will not be eligible to renew by phone.

If you received a postcard renewal notice in the mail or lost your pre-print and wish to renew by mail, please follow this process: Review, print and complete the Mail-in Renewal Instruction Packet, print and complete State Form 56163, gather the documents along with your payment and mail to: Winchester Processing Center, PO Box 100309 West South St, Winchester, IN 47394. Renewal documents must be postmarked on or before the renewal due date.

You can also complete your registration renewal at any BMV Branch. Find your nearest BMV Branch location. Lake and Porter County residents will need to pass an emissions test. If your insurance has changed since your last registration transaction, you will need to present new proof of insurance. If you are registering a vehicle other than a standard car or truck, other documentation may be required.

Finally, you can renew at any FSP/PSP location. Lake and Porter County residents will need to pass an emissions test. To find out if your vehicle is due for an emissions test, refer to the Vehicle Emissions Testing Program page. If your insurance has changed since your last registration transaction, you will need to present new proof of insurance.
