GRE Registration: A Comprehensive Guide

Planning to take the GRE but overwhelmed by the registration process? Want to know about GRE fees and scheduling? Concerned about registration dates and deadlines?

Registering for the GRE isn’t difficult and can be easily done once you understand the process. Before you begin, carefully review the eligibility criteria and requirements set by ETS.

The GRE registration process involves five simple steps:

  1. Visit the official ETS website and create a personal account.
  2. Select the GRE test you wish to take (GRE General Test or GRE Subject Test).
  3. Choose a convenient test center.
  4. Select your test date and time.
  5. Pay the GRE registration fee.

Note: Always schedule your test in advance to avoid last-minute inconveniences.

There are three ways to register for the GRE:

  • Online Registration
  • Offline Registration (by phone, mail, or fax)
  • At Home Testing

Online registration is the preferred method for registering and scheduling your GRE test as it offers maximum convenience. You need to create an ETS account, log in, and enter all the necessary information, then select your test date and pay the registration fee via credit card, debit card, or services like PayPal.

Offline registration can be done by phone, mail, or fax. If you are a resident of the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands, you can call 1-443-751-4820 or 1-800-473-2255 to register for the GRE. Registration by mail requires you to complete the GRE General Test Authorization Voucher Request Form and mail it along with the fee payment. Fax registration requires you to send your registration form to 91-124-4147773.

The GRE At Home test is an excellent option if you have the necessary technical equipment, such as a computer, microphone, and camera. The registration process for the at-home test is similar to the GRE General Test. The only difference is that you need to select the “at-home testing” option during registration.

To register for the GRE General Test, you need to visit the ETS website, create a profile, select the GRE General Test, choose a test center, time, and date, review your information, and pay the fee. Similarly, for the GRE Subject Test, you need to create a profile on the ETS website, choose the GRE Subject Test, select your subject, complete the application form, choose the test date and center, confirm your details, and pay the fee.

After registering, you need to schedule your GRE test. ETS allows test takers to choose a test date and time that suits their study schedule.

The GRE registration fee varies by country. The GRE registration fee in India is 228 USD, which is approximately 18,656 INR. In China, it is 231 USD, and for the rest of the world, it is 220 USD.

ETS regularly updates information regarding the GRE test. Some of the latest updates include a 25% discount on the TOEFL fee when registering for the GRE, acceptance of the Adhaar card as identification for the GRE, and an increase in the GRE registration fee for Indian students.
