Cabarrus County marriage records have been kept since the County was formed in 1792. Marriage registration records from 1792 to 1855 are housed at the Archives and History in Raleigh. Copies of these records are available at the Register of Deeds office. Originals from 1856 to present are housed at the Cabarrus County Register of Deeds.
The Register of Deeds office maintains copies of North Carolina birth and death certificates. The state began recording these documents in late 1913.
The Register of Deeds office is authorized by the State Registrar to issue birth certificates from the Statewide Birth Certificate Database. This database is maintained by the NC Office of Vital Records in Raleigh. This program allows the office to issue certified, abstract copies of birth certificates for persons born anywhere in NC from 1971 to the present. You should not use this system if your request falls under any of the following:
- The person was born before 1971.
- You do not have the exact birth information (name, year of birth, mother’s maiden name).
- The person was adopted.
- You want a full image copy of the birth certificate instead of an abstract.
- The person’s birth certificate was filed late, meaning it was registered more than one year after the date of birth.
- The father or mother, or both, listed on the birth certificate were born in a country other than: USA, Mexico, Canada, Puerto Rico, Guam, Virgin Islands, Cuba.
- You are not willing to pay $24 for the search and one certified copy. Each additional certified copy of the same certificate is $15.
Per NC General Statute 130-93.1(a)(1), a $14 fee for each search in this system will be charged whether or not a record is found. Furthermore, only certain individuals may receive a certified copy of a birth certificate. Those individuals are: the person named on the certificate, their immediate family, or the legal representative of either of these individuals.
Out-of-county birth certificates are issued from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
