Find Wheeling News Register Obituaries Online

The Ohio County Public Library is currently digitizing microfilm versions of the Wheeling News-Register and The Intelligencer. All issues of the Intelligencer from 1852 to the present are available online. Digitization of the News-Register is ongoing, with issues from 1863 to 1976 and many Sunday papers now accessible online. More issues will be added to the collection as microfilm processing continues.

You can search Wheeling News Register obituaries online through the Ohio County Public Library’s digital archives. This is an invaluable resource for anyone researching family history or local history. The website is user-friendly, allowing you to search by name, date, or keyword.

The Bellaire Public Library in Bellaire, Ohio has also begun digitizing their microfilm newspapers. Papers from 1873 to 1973 are currently available, including The Times Leader, The Belmont Chronicle, The Bellaire Chronicle, Bellaire Independent, and Bellaire Democrat.

In addition, digitized Wheeling newspapers from before 1922 are available through the Library of Congress website Chronicling America. Chronicling America is an online repository of historic American newspapers from 1789 to 1924. You can find the Wheeling Daily Intelligencer from 1852-1922 and the Wheeling Daily Register from 1863-1888 on this website. To find the Wheeling newspapers, click on the “Advanced Search” tab and select by state or by newspaper title.

Many West Virginia newspapers are available including publications from Beckley, Bluefield, Charlestown, Charleston, Clarksburg, Fayetteville, Martinsburg, Morgantown, Shepherdstown and Weirton. Select dates are available for the Wheeling Daily Intelligencer (1852-1865) and the Wheeling Intelligencer (1911-1913). Note that access to NewspaperARCHIVE is only available on computers inside the Library.
