Registering to vote is a right and responsibility of every citizen. In Michigan, registering to vote is simple and convenient. You can register at your city clerk’s office, county clerk’s office, a Secretary of State branch office, or other designated state agencies. You can also download a registration form online at www.michigan.gov/vote, complete it, and submit it online or print it and mail it to your city clerk’s office. If you are already registered, you can update your registration information at www.michigan.gov/vote.
The deadline to register to vote online or by mail is 15 days before Election Day. Beginning 14 days before Election Day, you can only register in person at your local city clerk’s office located at 333 W. Ellsworth St. Midland, MI, 48640 during regular business hours and must show proof of residency (MCL 168.492). Additional proof of residency may be required; please call (989) 837-3310 for details.
When you register, you will need your driver’s license or one of the following forms of photo identification:
- Michigan State ID
- Driver’s License or Personal Identification Card issued by another state
- Federally or State issued photo identification card
- U.S. Passport
- Military ID card with photo
- Tribal ID card with photo
- Student ID card with photo from a high school or accredited institution of higher education
- Locally issued photo identification
To be eligible to register to vote in Michigan, you must:
- Be a resident of Michigan and of the city or township where you are registering to vote for at least 30 days before Election Day.
- Be a U.S. citizen.
- Be at least 18 years old (by Election Day).
- Not currently be serving a sentence in jail or prison.
