You can request certified copies of birth, death, or marriage certificates online and pay with Visa or MasterCard by visiting the Get Certificate Now website and completing the requested information.
NOTE: Please DO NOT PLACE AN ORDER FOR PICK UP. All pick-up orders will be cancelled and the money refunded to your account.
The fee for a certified copy of a birth, death, or marriage certificate is $10.00 each.
You can obtain certified copies of New Hanover County birth, death, or marriage certificates from our Main Office (320 Chestnut St.) or our Annex Office (230 Government Ctr. Dr.) of the New Hanover County Register Of Deeds. The fee is $10.00 for each certified copy and $0.25 for each uncertified copy.

Pursuant to G.S.130A-26A(be)(1), a person who commits any of the following acts shall be guilty of a Class 1 felony: Knowingly and willingly makes any false statement in an application for a certified copy of a vital record, or knowingly and willingly supplies false information with the intent to use such information to obtain any copy of a vital record.
The New Hanover County Register of Deeds office participates in the Statewide Birth Certificate Issuance Program, allowing local residents to obtain certified copies of birth certificates for an individual born anywhere in North Carolina from 1971 to the present. (see note) The Register of Deeds is legally authorized by the State Registrar to issue certificate copies from the Statewide Birth Certificate Database, maintained by the North Carolina Vital Records office in Raleigh.
The fee for a certificate copy from the Statewide Birth Certificate Database is $24.00 to search the certificate in the state registry and includes one copy of the certificate. Additional certificates from the same search are $15.00 each. For residents born in New Hanover County, the cost per certificate remains $10.00.
